Did you know people speak French in Maine? Really, they do. That's the same language people speak in France. Vandaveer is in Maine right now... well, not really Vandaveer, per se, but he who maketh one half of Vandaveer, or one third of Vandaveer depending on how you do the math...

Where is this going? Nowhere. But Vandaveer *is* going to France, wholly and completely. See, these handsome and beautiful folks in Paris (silly Vandaveer! Everyone is handsome and beautiful in Paris!) have a fine little label called Alter. K Records, and damned if they didn't pick up "Grace & Speed" for a French release this very month of May.

And so, to help usher in said release, and because we really can't think of a better, more beautiful way to spend our days and nights this very month of May, ole Vandaveer will hop the mighty Atlantic and spend the better part of--you guessed it--this very month of May touring up, down, and all around Europe's finest Republic.

Behold! This frigid, 2008th installment of February, lengthened and leapened though it was this time around, has finally gone the way of the Dodo bird... I cannot say I miss it. Colds and flus be damned, our fair March, lionly and proud, has arrived! And with it comes news of future, further and farther touring... Midwesternly touring, in fact. Through the great states of West Virginia, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and, yes, my old Kentucky home, too...

We shall drive. We shall sing. We shall repeat. And somewhere along the way we shall meet up with dazed & confused compadres, collaborators and co-conspirators These United States, squeeze in a Daytrotter Session, and then make our way back to the fair District of Columbia just in time for those famous April showers.

And showery as April may be, it will--with great certainty--bring flowers. May flowers, specifically. And pretty as they are on this side of the Atlantic, we’ve opted to spend our May touring high and low, far and wide, across Europe's great French republic in support of Grace & Speed’s French release this spring. Details, dates, and the rest arriving by the day in the SHOWS section of this very page.

And lastly, we’re damn near halfway finished with Vandaveer Record #2. Nothing worth sharing yet, but we’re giddy for what’s to come… More on that front later. Promise.

Here we are, good people... On the very cusp of 2008, primed and nearly ready to say our last goodbyes to this rapidly aging old year... But before we part with 2007 forever and ever, let us gently apply the brakes so that we may enjoy these last waning, dark days...

Hey there, good denizens o' cyberspace... Heavens, it's been a while since we last spoke... Long overdue, yes? Nice to be back home... Home is nice... Oh so very nice... Though we miss all those fine folks we befriended in Europe... Must go back... Soon... Sooner... rather than... later... mhmmm....

Touring Europe makes Vandaveer happy... Made Vandaveer happy... Trains... Many trains... Many long hours on trains... Read lots of Poe... Dreamed many things... Lost track of the time... Then crates & crates of warm beer... Fish... and chips... And then more warm beer... but then, wine... bottles and bottles of French wine... and then beer AND wine... and whisky... the real kind... so many friends... The finest folks, the whole lot of them... Treated us like kings... like new, wide-eyed kings from the wild west...

But we were only boys... boys on holiday... on a mission...

We shall return... Oh, godspeed our return!!!

To all our new friends, thank you... a thousand thank yous, in fact... from the bottom of our bottomless hearts... we thank you...

Not much more to report... time to turn the house into a studio... new songs... so many songs... long overdue... perhaps a new record in '08... perhaps something else... perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

So many things to tell you, so few clever ways left to tell them... And so, we'll cut to the chase, as the kids say... Dear Vandaveer will be hopping the pond this autumn for our very first proper European tour. We'll be joining our dear DC mates These United States on a three-week trek across the UK, France, The Netherlands, Germany, and then back to the UK, where we'll surely down many pints, make many new friends, and marvel at how truly weak the US dollar is compared to the pound and the euro. But enough grumbling...

For our Stateside mates, please spread the good word. And just so you know we love you too, we'll surely continue traveling up, down, and all around these fine United States before and after our transatlantic journey...

On this very first day of June we're oh-so happy to announce that Grace & Speed is now available for widespread consumption, legal and otherwise, in Europe, Japan, Australia, and a variety of various, varying points in between...

Vashti Bunyan! Vetiver! Vandaveer! Vriday! Vebruary 9th! Live @ the Vock & Voll Votel!

Vashti, a direct-but-still-very-distant grand, grandoffspring of John Bunyan, released one amazing record, pal'd around with folks like Donovan back in the Nineteen Hundred'n'Sixties (groovy), then abruptly went all incognito-like for damn near forty years.

Well... Vashti's back, spurred on, in part, by San Fran psych-folk allegiance-pledgers like Vetiver. And wouldn't'ya know it, Vashti & Vetiver are out on tour this very balmy winter.

And wouldn't'ya double-know it, Vandaveer's joining these fair folks in two short weeks here in Capital City, Freedomland. Rad.

Welcome, Fair Friends, to Vandaveer's brand spankin', paint-still-wet (don't touch the banister!), new-car-smellin' home on the web... Have yourself a look-see, already!

'Tis been a long time coming, and on this, the Very First Day of Winter, everyone here at Camp Vandaveer is Tickled Pink to see this thing go live...

Firstly, Mostly, and Awesomely... A giant High-Five to Justin Morgan (aka Rusuden) for all the programming, coding, designing, and decoding skills without which this site simply would not be. Justin is the Millennium Falcon of web design, having whipped this Cyber Thing together in Less Than Twelve Parsecs... (Applause).

Lots to report here in Vandaveerland, so we'll get right to it: Gypsy Eyes Records, DC's newest indie imprint, will release Vandaveer's debut record, "Grace & Speed" on March 20th, 2007 (The Very First Day of Spring, for astronomers, astrologers, conspiracy theorists and hippies keeping count)... Gypsy Eyes is home to some of DC's very finest, and we're Humbled and Honored to have Vandaveer joining their ranks... Truly.

Extensive touring shall precede'n'proceed both before'n'after said record release, so please visit this site early & often for new and everlasting tour dates...
